Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address; display name (optional); city and ZIP code (optional); and authentication provider (email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple).
• Home Maintenance Data: Task preferences, completion dates, maintenance history, notes, schedules, vehicle (Auto) data, household settings you configure, and notification settings you create within the app.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version, used for compatibility and crash reporting.
• App Usage Data: Anonymized usage patterns (e.g., which features are used, app performance metrics) collected through Firebase Analytics to help us improve the app.
• Crash Reports: Diagnostic data collected when the app crashes (e.g. via Firebase Crashlytics and/or Sentry) to identify and fix bugs. Reports may include device type, app version, and technical stack information—not the text of your task notes.

Optional weather-related processing (freeze & hose alerts)

If you enable freeze/hose-style alerts and have a U.S. ZIP on your profile, HUT may:

• Send your ZIP (or a ZIP-derived city/region lookup) to a geocoding service to obtain approximate latitude/longitude; and
• Request public weather forecast data (e.g. U.S. National Weather Service / weather.gov APIs) for that area

to decide whether to schedule a local on-device reminder. HUT does not continuously track your GPS location for this feature.

What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your precise GPS location.
• We do not track your behavior across third-party apps or websites in the App itself.
• We do not collect payment information (the app has no in-app purchases at this time).
• We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to advertisers.
• We do not share your account email, name, ZIP code, or maintenance notes with affiliate networks or merchants merely because an optional product recommendation is shown in the app. If you tap a partner or affiliate link, you leave HUT, and any data collected on that site is governed by that third party's privacy policy—not ours.

2. Local Storage on Your Device

HUT uses a local-first architecture. This means your maintenance data, preferences, and history are stored directly on your device using the device's local storage. This allows the app to function without a constant internet connection.

When you are online, your locally stored data is automatically synchronized to our secure cloud database (Firebase Firestore) as a backup and to enable cross-device access. You can use HUT offline — your data remains on your device regardless of cloud connectivity.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

• App Functionality: To provide, operate, and maintain all core features of HUT.
• Data Sync: To back up your data to the cloud and sync it across your devices when you are online.
• Notifications: To send local notifications for task reminders (and optional seasonal freeze/hose reminders) based on settings you configure. These reminders are scheduled on your device; they are not marketing push campaigns from our servers.
• App Improvement: To analyze anonymized usage patterns and crash reports to improve stability, performance, and user experience.
• Customer Support: To respond to your inquiries and support requests.
• Legal & safety: To enforce our Terms, prevent abuse, and comply with law.

4. Third-Party Services

HUT relies on the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing their use of data:

International Data Transfers

HUT is operated from the United States, and personal data we collect is processed in the United States. If you access HUT from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction whose data protection laws differ from those of the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, including:

• Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, as implemented through our agreements with Google (Firebase) and other sub-processors.
• EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework / UK Extension / Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework certifications maintained by Google LLC, where applicable.
• Additional technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls, to protect transferred data.

All Firebase and Google services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Data processed through these services may be stored on servers located in the United States.

5. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Your data may only be shared in the following limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: With the third-party services listed above, solely as necessary to operate the app.
• Legal Requirements: If required by applicable law, court order, or governmental regulation.
• Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of TechStack LLC, our users, or others, where required or permitted by law.
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and maintenance data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

• Account data is retained until you request account deletion.
• Crash and analytics data is retained by Firebase and similar providers for a limited period in raw form and may be retained longer in aggregated, anonymized form.
• Local device data remains on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data through device or in-app settings.

After account deletion, your data is removed from our cloud database. Residual data may remain in anonymized, aggregated analytics reports or backups for a short period consistent with our technical systems.

7. Your Rights & Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: View your maintenance data, history, and settings within the app.
• Correction: Update your profile, preferences, and maintenance data through the app.
• Notifications: Opt out of reminders through the app's Settings and/or your device's notification settings.
• Account & Data Deletion: You may permanently delete your account and associated cloud data in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account (You may need to confirm as prompted, including re-authenticating with Google or Apple if you use those providers.) Deletion is intended to be permanent. You may also contact us at support@myhut.app for assistance.
• Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal data by contacting us at support@myhut.app.
• Opt Out of Analytics: You may contact us to request that your device be excluded from analytics collection where technically feasible.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• Right to Know: The right to request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• Right to Delete: The right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
• Right to Opt Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information. You do not need to opt out.

9. EEA, UK & Swiss Privacy Rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, or equivalent local laws apply to our processing of your personal data.

Data Controller

TechStack LLC is the data controller of your personal data for the purposes of GDPR (doing business as HUT). You can reach us using the contact details in Section 13 below.

Lawful Bases for Processing

We process personal data on the following lawful bases:

• Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to create your account, run the App, sync your maintenance data across your devices, and provide customer support.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep the App secure, prevent abuse, fix bugs through crash reports, and improve features through aggregated, anonymized usage analytics. We have balanced these interests against your rights and freedoms.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for optional features that require explicit permission on your device, such as push/local notifications, or optional weather-based alerts. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — where we are required to retain or disclose data to comply with applicable law.

Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you and obtain a copy.
• Rectify inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• Erase ("right to be forgotten") your personal data — you can do this yourself in-app via Settings → Account → Delete account, or by emailing us.
• Restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, including for direct marketing (note: HUT does not perform direct marketing).
• Data portability — receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. A list of EEA supervisory authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu. UK residents can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Swiss residents can contact the FDPIC.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@myhut.app. We will respond within one month, as required by GDPR. We may need to verify your identity before acting on certain requests.

Automated Decision-Making

HUT does not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

10. Children's Privacy

HUT is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, such as 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below this age. If we become aware that such a child has provided personal information, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@myhut.app.

11. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

• Encrypted data transmission using HTTPS/TLS
• Firebase security rules that enforce user-level access control — no user can access another user's data
• Secure authentication managed by Google Firebase Authentication
• Local-first storage that limits cloud exposure of your data

While we implement these safeguards, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also notify you within the app and update the terms version used by the App. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of HUT after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
